Reinventing the Knob

Picking up his first guitar at the age of 14, Yosuke has been addicted to the instrument since then. He flew to America and graduated Musicians Institute Hollywood in 2008. After being a professional guitarist in Japan, he invented a new knob for stomp boxes.

Yosuke

Like most guitarists, I love playing around with my pedals and other gears.
But every time my cables touch or my feet touches the knobs, the settings gets messed up. One solution is duct tape but I hate using duct tapes on my pedals because it gets sticky and ugly.
Of course the sound is important, so we have no choice but to tape the knobs down to keep the setting.

But Guitarists are people who goes on stage. We have to use cool gear.
Guitarists are Heros for Guitar kids.

Kawashima

It might be very disappointing if batman’s belt were fixed with duct tapes.

Yosuke

You’re Right. So maybe we need a new belt or a new type of pedal that locks the settings.
But we don’t want some pedal only for setting purposes, the sound still remains the most important issue. Guitarists should use whichever pedal he or she wants to use. The sound is our identity.
So, one day, I came up with an idea of a knob which can protect the settings by simply replacing the original knobs.

Kawashima

Well, is it something like the knob fixed to the stomp box?

Yosuke

There are many ways to save pedal settings, like taping, covering, locking with a screw, etc.
But pedals comes with so many types of sizes and shapes that it’s very hard to find a universal solution.
Finally we found that idling is the simplest and best way.

Better spin than break

Kawashima

What do you mean by idling?

Yosuke

The side of the knob spins.
With our HAWKEYE KNOB, you can’t change the settings when the knob is settled down. If you want to turn it, you pull up the sides to rotate it.

It’s a Lift & Turn knob.

I see! It is simple.
Was it easy to manufacture too?

Yosuke

It turned out to be much difficult than I thought,it took about 3 years since the first idea.We made a lot of prototypes, and tested a lot.
I’m sure it’s a high-quality knob like no other.

the design

Kawashima

I heard you worked a lot on the design.

Yosuke

As I mentioned earlier, I think guitarists should look cool and I didn’t want to make a product which is functional but not special visually.
We treated the design and function equally, even though it’s a function based product.
We created many patterns to test which design suits various stomp boxes.

Now,we have the standard black and white from (Solid) series.
transparent and translucent Red from (aura) series.
and new colors are coming up.

Kawashima

Any message for guitar players?

Yosuke

It’s very hard to concentrate when you accidently kicked and messed up your pedal settings during live performance or at the studio.
Your sound making and rehearsals becomes a wasted effort.

Making you feel like a true guitarist and inspiring who plays,is an important role of musical equipment.
We are here to help you feel free and to get into the zone of creativity.
Have fun with our knobs and hope you have a wonderful musiclife.
